COMMITTEES
Newsletter - Responsible for gathering articles, setting up and editing of monthly PTA newsletter - one issue per month. Contact Susan McKeon for more information.
Membership - September through June - Responsible for selling PTA membership cards to community, staff and families. Contact Alicia Smith for more information.
PARP - Parents As Reading Partners - The entire school voluntarily participates in this three to four week program beginning with the PARP kickoff (sets the theme of the PARP program). Maintain reading tracking sheets with the program culminating in the winning classes receiving a reward (pizza and bagel parties have been done in the past). Class Parent - September through June - Responsible for compiling class parent lists after teachers have chosen their class parent(s). Chairperson must be available to initiate phone chain for school cancellations or early dismissals. Host Class Parent Welcome (October) and End of the Year Thank You (May or June) Bagel Breakfast. Service - September through June - Service Chairperson will be responsible for overseeing the assigned sub-committees. The Service Chairperson will attend the PTA Executive Board Meetings and report back to the sub-committee chairs. (Please see below for sub-committee explanations.)
Purchasing - September through June - Purchasing Chairperson will be responsible for overseeing the Hospitality sub-committee in addition to purchasing all necessary supplies for all PTA run events throughout the year. The Purchasing Chairperson will attend the PTA Executive Board Meetings and report back to the sub-committee chair. (Please see below for sub-committee explanations.)

Fundraising - September/October - Organizing, ordering, and distributing or merchandise sold. Contact Allison Reggiani or Cathy Lilley for more information.

Sub-Committees that fall under Service Chairperson
-Outside Sign - September through June - Posting upcoming events on Ridge School Sign. (Terry Gesmondi)
Beautification - September through June - Maintaining flowers and seasonal outside decorations.
Spirit Wear - One time per year - Selling of school clothing. (Donna Gilmore and Bonnie Bredes)
Emergency Needs - September through June - Assist in stocking food pantry and making deliveries to Coram Ministries (or other). Extra help is needed during the holiday season and food drives.
Vision Screening - September or October - Assist school nurse in kindergarten vision screening.
Reflections - Oversee the PTA Reflections Program. (Sharon Weil or Nora Geiser)
Bulletin Boards - September through June - Maintaining PTA bulletin boards in both buildings.
Longwood Day - May - Set up table representing Ridge PTA at this family day centered around the student concerts. (Michelle Communale)

Hospitality - September through June - Setting up refreshments for monthly PTA meetings and other PTA functions/events.

School Pictures - October & May - Chairperson needs to organize and distribute paperwork, in addition to collecting student/teacher order packets. Works directly with photographer. (Alicia Smith)
Holiday Fair - December - Event centered around the winter holidays. (Jeanette Nicotra, Sharon Weil, and Dawn Caporino)
Kindergarten Orientation- May - Works with faculty and administration in putting together a couple of days where the incoming kindergartners come into a classroom to do an activity while their parents attends a program and are introduced to administrators, staff members, and the PTA representative. Oversee bus ride in August. (Cathy D'Onofrio and Judy Cillufo)
Family Fun Night - March or April - A family theme night of BINGO. (Debbie DelFranco and Diane Henriksen)
4th Grade Activities - Plan the activities celebrating the final year at Ridge Elementary. Also oversee the selling of snack and drinks at Family Fun Night, involving 4th grade student volunteers for this activity. (Kim Lombardi, Donna Gilmore and Terre Arena)
Plant Sale - A week in May - usually before Mother’s Day - Organize the selling of plants/flowers. Each class visits the plant sale during a scheduled time chosen by the teacher. (Sharon Weil, Donna Gilmore, and Alicia Smith)
Fashion Show - Date to be determined - You will need to secure donations from local businesses to be auctioned off. (Kim Lombardi, Allison Reggiani, and Susan Kennedy)
Ice Cream Social - May/June in association with Spirit Day for the 4th grade and each addition grade
(K-3) the week following Spirit Day - An ice cream send off during scheduled class time. Help is needed to serve the students. (Cathy D'Onofrio and Judy Cillufo)4th Grade Memory Book - Chairperson(s) responsible for putting together a committee to work with the photography studio representative to develop a memory book for the graduating 4th graders. (Nora Geiser)
Book Fair - Work with Scholastic (or other) in sponsoring a book fair. Coincides with the PARP program to get students interested in reading. Host a parent after school sale the last day of the fair, typically a Friday afternoon from 3-6. Also have a limited sample of books for sale at the PARP kickoff. (Donna Gilmore and Alicia Smith)
