Ridge PTA General Meeting Minutes dated Sept. 19, 2011
1. Called to order at 7:05 pm by Victoria Molloy, PTA Co-President
2. Introduction of Board Members:
· Co-Presidents, Victoria Molloy and Amanda Caracciolo
· 1st Vice President, Maria Wiener
· 2nd Vice President, Niki Gries
· Treasurer, Stacey Buonconsiglio
· Recording Secretary, Jamie Noll
· Corresponding Secretary, Carrie Schor
· Council Delegates, Liz Ryan and Kathy Bernard
3. Administrative Report- Mrs. Rozycki
· Welcomed everyone and introduced herself as the Principal and Mrs. Tilly as the Assistant Principal
· There is one less Assistant Principal in the school due to budget cuts
· Thanked the PTA for the Teacher’s Luncheon given before the start of the new school year
· Thanked the volunteers that helped out getting the students off of the buses and to their classes throughout the first few days of school starting
· Ridge Elementary is implementing the NYS- Common Core Standards- more to follow.
· Ridge Elementary is becoming a Teacher’s College Literacy District. The teacher’s will be trained in the Teacher’s College approach. This approach is aligned with the NYS ELA standards. Fundations is still in place.
· PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) is continuing. Students learn the expected behavior and rules of school areas, including the bus. Focuses management system on positive reinforcement. Students are rewarded with Paws and Cub Cash.
· Antibullying lessons are being given. Focus needs to be placed on the behavior on the school buses.
4. President’s Report- Mrs. Molloy
· Raffle prizes will be given out at every PTA meeting. One of tonight’s raffles -“Savings Discount Card”, which is currently being sold through the PTA for $10.00.
· Teacher Luncheon was a success.
· PTA Membership forms coming home in approximately two weeks.
· Spirit Wear will be sold at PTA meetings. Only limited quantity remains.
· Looking for one volunteer to serve as the Council Delegate. Council Delegates meet at LHS one time per month.
· Committee sign up book passed around; volunteers are welcomed
· Next PTA meeting Oct. 11th
· Ridge Spirit Week – Oct. 17th- Oct. 21st
· PARP kickoff at the end of Spirit Week. PARP is a celebration of parents reading with children. Book Fair will start the night of PARP event.

5. Treasurer’s Report- Mrs. Buonconsiglio
· Proposed budget for 2011-2012 school year
· Motion to approve proposed budget by Kelly Motto Jung and Alicia Monaghan
6. Correspondence- Mrs. Schor
· A thank you note from the Ridge 4th grade teachers regarding the Teacher Luncheon was read.
7. SEPTA Report:
· Membership forms were sent home.
· Order form for pocket-size school calendar was also sent home. The calendars are $4.00 each.
· Oct. 21st is the first activity night
8. Board of Education Representative is Mr. Loguercio
9. Committee Reports:
A. Membership: Letters being sent home; Business membership is $20.00; need male members as well
B. Class Parent: Signup sheets were at Open House; waiting for teacher’s approvals; Oct. 5th is the Class Parent Tea at 10 am
C. Fall Fundraiser: additional forms are available; reminder notice regarding deadlines was sent home; top seller gets a $250.00 American Express gift card; orders online ship free if the total is greater than $75.00; no perishables can be ordered online
D. Reflections: flyer going out 9/20; theme is “Diversity Means”
E. Book Fair: there will be a raffle for families that purchase on the night of PARP; in school book fair Oct. 24th- Oct. 26th
F. School Pictures: Oct. 12th – 13th ; class schedules will be on the back of the flyers that will be sent home; every child gets photographed
G. PARP: Parents as Reading Partners; each child will receive a scented bookmark if the PARP sheet is turned in completed at the end of each PARP week
H. Newsletter: PTA composes a newsletter; business member’s business cards are printed within the newsletter
I. Box Tops: $1,600 was raised through Box Tops last year; 2011-2012 goal is $1,800-$2,00; Box Tops contest coming home soon; Hanes brands is also partnering with Box Tops; volunteers needed for bundling of the box tops
J. Welcome Back Picnic: 95 families have responded; there will be a DJ, ice cream truck, food, and fun!
