Ridge PTA General Meeting Minutes dated Oct. 17, 2011

1. Called to order at 7:05 pm by Vitoria Molloy, PTA Co-President
2. Approval of Minutes: Vote to approve minutes from Sept. 19th meeting by Sally Marselle and Cathy Donofrio
3. Administrative Report- Mrs. Rozycki
* PBIS kick-off:
o Children were given rules of common areas within building and on the bus (the buses continue to be an area where most behavioral issues are occurring); Children are earning “Cub Cash”; Classes are earning “Golden Paws”
o School store is open- Limited amount of 4th graders are running the store as part of a pre-vocational program that was established from grant money.
* Interim Reports:
o Going out Oct. 20th; Only given out to students in need
o Parent/Teacher conferences in December; Don’t hesitate to call your child’s teacher if you need to speak with them
* Unity Day:
o Rescheduled for Oct. 21st; Not really a parent involved event
o Unifies the Primary and Intermediate buildings; Recognizes Birthdays as well as Teacher/Employees of the month
* Student Awards:
o Being reevaluated by Shared Decision Making Team; Academic awards as well as an Honor Roll (based on report cards) may be forming
4. Teacher’s Report:
* Mr. Cichi reported that if anyone needs anything to let him know
5. President’s Report:
* Thanked the volunteers on Picture Day; Thanked Fink’s Farm for Autumn decorations displayed in front of the buildings
* Oct. 20th is Board of Education Recognition - gifts will be given to board members
* Longwood Council is hosting a blood drive on Oct. 24th from 3pm-9pm at the LHS
* School Nurses are looking for clothing donations for both buildings (especially boys pants sizes 6-12, new socks, new underwear, small sized sneakers (10-1))
* NYS PTA Annual Convention 11/11- 11/13 in Niagra Falls; paid for by the PTA; if interested, let the PTA know
* 10/20/11 training seminars will be given for PTA positions at Sagamore MS (Sachem District); anyone can attend
* PTA members receive 10% discount at Office Max; Barnes and Nobles is giving discounts from 10/15 – 10/23 for educators
* Council Delegate is needed; meet 1x/ month at LHS; report back to the Ridge PTA at the general meetings
6. Treasure’s Report:
* Vote from floor to approve budget from Valerie Diem and Gina D’Avolio
7. Correspondence:
* Thank you from the First Grade Teachers for the “back to school luncheon”
8. SEPTA Report:
* Mixed Bag Fundraiser due
* Meeting 10/19 7pm-9pm LMS library; Speaker on Central Auditory Processing disorders will be present
* 10/21 Activity Night (Halloween Dance) from 6:30- 8:00 pm at LMS cafeteria
9. Board of Ed Report:
* New developments in area (i.e. old UA in Coram becoming a condominium complex with a town square, Rte. 101 RR station, changes being made to William Floyd Parkway); Tennis courts are being built at LJHS
10. Council Delegate:
* Bullying forum hosted on Oct. 11th was informative; info can be found on the website www.RyanPatrickHalligan.org
11. Committee Reports:
* Membership: 243 total members thus far (less than last year)
* Class Parent: Tea was a success; Upcoming Book Fair Class Parents are to volunteer a three hour shift; emails will be sent to Class Parents
* Fall Fundraiser: pick up will be approximately Oct. 27th; notification will be sent home
* Reflections: Packages went home to those interested; projects due by 10/26
* Book Fair: starts on 10/21 at PARP Kickoff in IC APR; will run from 10/24- 10/26
* School Pictures: were a success
* PARP: Kickoff 10/21 at 7 pm in IC Gym; Family Event; “Hip Pickles” to perform; next three weeks sign PARP forms so that the student gets a gift for reading with their parent
* Box Tops: contest has collected 4,000 Box Tops thus far * Website: www.ridgepta.com ; email the site if you need something posted
* Holiday Fair: Kim Milano in charge of vendors; $25.00 for one table; $50.00 for double table
